Dampness

What it involves

Dampness has different causes, and each requires its own treatment. Before acting we identify the source — water infiltration, rising damp or condensation — so the problem is properly resolved.

What's included

Diagnosis of the source of the damp
Infiltration treatment
Rising-damp barriers
Ventilation and insulation improvements
Repair of the affected finishes

The exact scope is defined in writing for each project. It does not include items that are not agreed.

When this service makes sense

  • Stains, mould or flaking appear on walls
  • There is damp on low walls or in basements
  • Condensation forms in winter

Frequently asked questions

How do I know whether damp is coming from an infiltration or from condensation?
It is not always visible to the naked eye, but there are indicators: infiltrations usually appear after rain or near roofs and façades, while condensation tends to appear in poorly ventilated spots and in winter. Rising damp works its way up low walls and basement walls. A diagnosis is needed before any action is taken.
Why is painting over the stain not enough?
Because paint covers the symptom; if the source continues, the damp comes back. The cause — infiltration, condensation or rising damp — has to be resolved first, and then the finish can be repaired.
Can damp come from the roof, façade or terrace?
Yes, often. A roof or façade in poor condition, or a terrace with failed waterproofing, are common causes of infiltration into the interior. That is why we look at the whole building envelope, not just the affected wall.
Is dampness a health issue?
We deal with the construction cause of the damp: infiltration, condensation, rising damp and ventilation. If you have concerns about health symptoms related to damp or mould, you should consult a medical professional.
What do I need to send to get an initial assessment?
A description of where the damp appears, since when, and some photos or a short video all help. With that we can give an initial orientation; depending on the case, a site visit may be needed to confirm the source before proposing a solution.
